So you want to play airsoft?

You've found something that you're interested in, and now you want to know everything you possibly can about it. Don't worry we've all been there before, and we've definitely been there when it comes to airsoft. Here at UtahAirsoft.com we're doing all we can to make your career in airsoft start off in the right direction.

Below we have listed some of the most important resources to help you get started with airsoft, and get out to game. We know you'll have lots of questions but before asking them we recommend that you read through all the resources listed so that, for our sake, we're not answering the same questions over and over.

The great price debate.

Before you read any further take a moment and read this very important section. New players endure a lot to get started, not knowing what to get, what brand to choose, and all that great stuff.

The one mistake that we get to see on a daily basis is a new player, looking for a gun and asking how they can get one for cheap. For those of us who have been playing for a while we all know there is no such thing as cheap airsoft guns. If you really want to enjoy the sport and get into your new hobby as much as a regular player, you'll need to come to the realisation right now that you are not going to find anything for "cheap".

Take your time and look for something you like, anything under a hundred dollars we can already tell you is most likely crap. If you don't have money at the time to spend two to three hundred on an airsoft gun, look into renting while you save money. Do not go out and buy something fast because you need it now, take your time and wait we promise it will be much more worth it.

So to make a long story short, you will get a bad reception in any state for airsoft if the first questions you ask are: "where can i get a cheap gun quick" or "i dont want to spend a lot of money, what should i get" we've all spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars. The hobby you are interested in is not a cheap one so be prepared.

Lets get started!

With that said lets get started. The forums are a great source of information and we've tried to keep it all pretty straight forward. Rather than just ask you to go straight there and dig through six years worth of information we've taken the liberty of listing it all out here:

  1. Newbie Guide I - This is the first installment of the newbie guide, it will give you great information on what you should buy first! Read this before you do anything else, it will help you get started.
  2. Newbie Guide II - Second installment of the newbie guide. This will teach you what brands of guns to buy, what brands have what quality and help you find one that you'll be happy with.
  3. Newbie Guide III - Third installment of the newbie guide. This time we'll talk about gear, which is very important to ensure that you have the best time possible at a game.
  4. Newbie Guide IV - Learn how to manage your ammo, having a box mag attached to your gun can be cool but do you need it? It add's a different gameplay experience than you might not want, find out why.
  5. Newbie Guide V - Learn about the advantages of load bearing gear, and how to keep all the energy you can for that big game day you have ahead of you.

How old do i have to be to play?
That depends on what team you really want to play for. Most teams within Utah have a minimum age of 16. That's not because we don't want you to play airsoft, thats because most of our fields are quite a long ways away and you need to be responsible for getting out there and getting home.

Other teams have a minimum age of 18, the best way to find out if you can play for a particular team is to ask. Make sure you know what team you are asking before posting something like "I'm 17 who can i play for?" types of questions!

I want an airsoft gun, what's good?
We have a general rule on the forums here, if you want something decent that will last right out of the box with no additional modifications you should buy something no less that $150. If you cheap out and try to get the first thing you see for $70 dollars your going to get stuck with something that really just doesn't work well at all. Take the time to ave your money and get something good right out of the gate. After all this is what you're going to use to find out if you like the sport or not, might as well do it right!

How can I find some fields to play at?
The best thing you can do is find a team to come out and play with. All the teams basically know some fields to play at and by showing up and having a great day of airsoft with them you'll be able to ask them where their locations are and if you can use them. Please keep in mind that some locations are private property and should probably not be played on unless the people who own it know, or are there.

There is one thing you should NEVER do when trying to find a place to play, and that is ask on the forums. We do not want to give out this informat on a public channel where everyone and anyone can come out to the field and do whatever they feel like. Please do not ask this type of question on the forums as it will not get a response. If all else fails take a saturday to drive around the country side and find a place yourself!

Now What?

Now that you've had a chance to read all of our newbie guides we can set you free to ask any questions which haven't already been asked. A good place to start is by searching our forums if you have any questions off the top of your head:

Search our forums

Once you've had a chance to look around feel free to ask us any questions you have, even though we answer questions over and over again we're more than happy to help you get started. Please remember that certain forums require moderator approval before a post can actually be viewable so make sure you read the forum rules before you continue.

Thanks for taking the time to read this first, hopefully it will save you the headaches we've all had to go through when we started!
